... After hefting a monstrous Hoover upright (I think it was called a Wind Tunnel) around my house for five years, I decided to try a canister vacuum cleaner. Consumer reviews on Amazon led me to the Miele, and I've rarely been as completely satisfied with a purchase.

My house has both wood and tile floors and several large, thick Persian rugs. For these varied surfaces, as well as for upholstery, drapes, and more, the Miele is perfect. I can carry it out to the driveway to clean my car, bring it from room to room for spot cleaning, or put it to work Spring-cleaning my entire house; there's no job too big or too small.

The best thing about the Miele is how quiet it is. My three-year-old daughter couldn't stand to be in the room with me when I used the upright cleaner, but she begs to use the Miele herself--and she's able to use it, too!

Yes, it's expensive, but it's worth every penny. If my Miele ever wears out (doubtful; it's sturdy and obviously very well made), I won't think twice about getting another. ...

... My old vacuum was broken, hence I started to shop for a new one. I went to Walmart and after looking at all of the vacuums they had there, I decided to buy the hoover self propelled windtunnel (it was the third most expensive one among them). I was amazed how much dust and dirt it picked up (way much more than my old vacuum). I have a kid and he is crawling around on the carpet all the time, therefore it is very import for me to have a good working vacuum. I am very satisfied with this vacuum. Things you should do:

1) Empty the container after each vacuum (it is better you take it outside and dump the dirt into a plastic bag or trash can to avoid the dust flying around your house)

2) Remove the hairs on the brush(es) that jammed on it after each use.

The reason why I only give it a 4 stars instead of 5:

1) I just bought it and I need to use it for a while to make sure everything is working properly, before it give it the full five stars.

2) The dirt sensor is useless, the green light is on even if the carpet is very dirty. I basically ignore it. ...

I bought the machine with a little skepticism since the floor isn't clean unless I hand scrub it (the idea of swiffer grosses me out). I was amazed at the job this machine does and oh so happy with the labor and time-saving advantage in using it. I tested it on the walls, and viola! Nice job. I didn't need cleaners, which is a big plus as I am trying hard to do my part in environmental mending.
Look forward to trying it on tiny tiny glass tiles surrounding my master suite bath. The only downfall is the cord length, but an extension cord remedied that.

... We have the Roomba Scheduler that is the version prior to this one (without the intellibin light). Both hubby and I work so we are busy parents taking care of our 1 year old son. With that kind of a schedule, the Roomba is the best appliance we've got around the house! Its heaveanly coming home to a clean floor, no dust bunnies ever (we have two indoor cats).

Granted, the Roomba may not be for everybody. We have hardwood floors and rugs throughout the house and the Roomba excels in performance for our situation. I can't honestly tell you how it would work if you have wall-to-wall carpet or very high pile rug. You also have to be diligent about cleaning it, but it really only takes no more than 10 minutes of your time, if not less. That's still a lot less time than I would do sweeping the house and vaccuming the rugs. One other thing as well: the Roomba is definitely not the best for last-minute or quick pickup jobs as it does take about 30-40 mins to clean one large room. We keep a cheap-o lightweight vac and dustbuster for those jobs.

I have owned this vacuum for 8-10 months (early in 2008), purchased from Walmart. I did a lot of research before purchasing it and found some reviews the compare this to the Dyson. I don't know if that is true but I love the vacuum. It is a bit heavy, if that's a concern. The onboard tools are a great feature and I love the Pet Tool, as we have 4 cats and a dog and I have long hair. The canister is a good size, though fills up quickly with all of our hair - be careful not to get too full or that's a bit messy, as with any bagless I'm sure. I love the retractable cord, the stretchy hose (though a bit stiff at first) and the suction is great! We have very short carpet, a thick rug, berber & linoleum and it works well on all heights and flooring types. With every use, it makes the carpet look brand new! On linoleum it does a great job and keeps the dust in - some "value models" seem to make a big dust cloud instead of sucking it in... not the case here! Overall I can't say that I have any complaints and I would highly recommend this as an alternative to a much higher priced machine.

The front light has already gone off and it come with a short hose. The powered nozzle attachment is a gimick, yet the main vacuum works wonderfully.

Hoover would not cover it under Warranty because they claim it is a maintenance item. This was even though there were no exclusions listed on the warranty page! The unit only cost $89 and the repair shop wanted $26 for a new brush. I don't understand how a part of the vacuum that is almost 30% of the unit cost can be a maintenance item! HOOVER WINDTUNNEL 2 UPRIGHT VACUUM

... I purchased this Hepa bagless vacuum b/c my daughter is starting to develop indoor environmental allergies and I wanted to make my home as allergy-free as possible for her. I actually used my old vacuum, an Oreck (1995 model), to vacuum the living room, and then followed up with this one, and it sucked up a ton of stuff - fuzz, dust, who knows what else, that the Oreck missed. So I'm sold on the cleaning ability.

But this is the second Windtunnel I've had where one of the plastic pieces broke. In the first one, the lever that you depress with your foot to make the vacuum operate snapped off after about a year. My husband was using it, and yes he may have a lead foot, but STILL. You'd think Hoover could invest a couple more dollars to make the foot pedal a bit sturdier.

On this vacuum, a useless plastic piece on the top of the handle snapped off when I was maneuvering the vacuum. The useless plastic piece, like a cap on the handle, was maybe 2 inches wide, but was supported by two flimsy plastic pegs that the force of my hand apparently broke off. This is just plain annoying in a $240 vacuum.

So, as much as I love the cleaning ability and feel oh so gratified every time I empty the canister about all the junk I am sparing my daughter from sitting in, breathing, etc..., I will probably purchase a Dyson for my next cleaner. I've heard those are indestructible.

It is very nice being bagless but it also has the option to use a bag if you prefer it. It has plenty of suction and the onboard tools are a nice touch. The powered hand tool is a huge plus and is great for cleaning furniture or stairs. Emptying the canister is clean and easy to do. One problem that I had with the vacuum was the HEPA filter constantly got clogged because it doesn't have any type of pre-filter. It was very messy to clean. It isn't washable so you either have to replace it often or take it outside and shake it like crazy to get it clean. When doing this the dust will go everywhere and make a huge mess and you will be covered in dust. Another problem was that you had to empty the canister often because the suction would greatly be reduced once the canister was half full. I think it is still a good vacuum for the price but there are certainly better vacuums if you are willing spend more money. ...

Hoover Floormate- H3060

First of all. Don't buy the H3060. This is why:

Following the instructions and using the supplied tile/grout cleaner with hot water in the dilution recommended.

1. It doesn't clean a dirty floor. The weight on the brushes is just too little to remove any real dirt.

2. It does a very poor job of picking up the dirty water. This is because the weight on the pick up is too little to get close enough to the floor. If I put my foot on it while moving it (hardly practical) it does pick up quite well. It also only picks up water in the forward direction. When you move it backwards, which like vacuuming you need to do, then a huge puddle is left behind.

3. The vacuum function is hopelessly under powered. (I did clean the filter. But that doesn't appear to be the issue.)

4. It is very noisy.

5. I can't see why you would need the tools supplied. I never did use them.

I think this is all rather sad. A lot of money must have gone into setting up to manufacture this machine. If only Hoover had got the design was right it would be a winner. In fact, for me it is a complete lemon. It takes a long time to do a lousy job. By lousy I mean, much less than 50% of the dirt is removed. Worse, however long you persist, you still only pick up less than 50% of the dirt. The 50% figure is optimistic, as the most obvious effect is that the dirt is merely spread across the floor more evenly than before.

My suggestion to Hoover is that the CEO should actually try his or her own products before releasing them to the market place.

The only good thing about this product is that the user manual is available on-line as a PDF on the Hoover web site. Sadly, the results you get following the instructions are dismal.

I have not directly compared this product with a bucket and mop, but I would imagine that a bucket and mop would be faster to use and definitely do a better job at the expense of a little more physical effort.

I consider my investment in this machine 100% wasted. I should have sent it back the very first time I used it. I really regret keeping it.

I will look for a machine that actually works and buy that. Naturally, no Hoover product will be considered. ...

... I clean houses for a living. I needed a 2nd vacuum for my 2 story house and still needed a 3rd for apartment cleanouts, etc. This vacuum had such a low price, I first planned to use it for business.

Since I have used it in my home, I decided this vacuum was better and decided to keep it for my home, along with my Dirt Devil Reaction (which I also love). I have a reconditioned bagless Bissell that I will be bringing on the job.

This Hoover is powerful and light. It really is as powerful as a Dyson and that says a lot. The dust cup empties easily. The attachments are fantastic for furniture, baseboards and corners. I can also store it away easily.

Hoover U6476-900 WindTunnel Upright Vacuum Cleaner

... I like this vacuum a lot and eventually one day it would not turn off. The actuator inside the handle is plastic and if the switch is stiff the plastic bends and does not rock the switch to off.
Take the two small screws out of the handle and remove the handle (just the reverse of how you assembled it). This will expose the on-off rocker switch. Rock it back and forth manually and the vacuum should turn on and off. If not the switch is bad and needs to be replaced. However, mine was very stiff. It worked when I manually rocked it but was too stiff when I put it back together to turn off.
What has worked for me on this vacuum: I went to radio shack and bought a spray can of Control/Contact Cleaner and Lubricant. It comes with a small piece of tubing. Once the handle was off (again) I put the tube into the top edge of the switch and pushed the button FOR A FRACTION OF A SECOND and then did the bottom edge of the switch. I worked the switch manually a couple of times. I repeated the spraying one more time and the rocking. I wiped off any excess that was visible. I put it all back together and it has been working fine for me.
This stuff is made for electrical contacts... HOWEVER, it is to be used very sparingly!!! Also, a new can has a bit of pressure. Be careful that you don't blow some back at you.

... This is a very nice product in many ways. Being a wet/dry vac in itself is a great selling point. There's also the power cord, which is long enough to reach just about anywhere inside a vehicle, even large SUVs. Removing and cleaning the canister and filter is a snap.

I was disappointed with the suction, though. Given the power stated I was expecting more, but it seems dustbuster-type vacuums haven't improved at all over the years in this regard. Holding a finger to the opening, I could barely feel the air move.

Vacuuming my car's carpets and seats, it sucked up loose dirt and tiny pebbles very well, but was completely unable to loosen/suck fuz and such from fabric (both carpets and seats). I suppose you need a motorized brush for this. Maybe I was just expecting too much.

Overall it's a great choice, especially if wet vacuuming is a requirement, but I want more suction! ...

... The constellation is a great tool! I vacuum everyday and this littler champion works great. I have owned several vacuum cleaners, including a Kirby and this is my favorite machine. I have all hardwood floors and this little baby floats around and the suction can't be beat. I love the flexible hose, as this allows me to do all the stairs while the constellation floats at the bottom. The turbo carpet attachment is lightweight and easy to use too. I am impressed with the suction and the ease of this very cool item. I love the fact that the on-board tools can be attached on the canister or the wand. I love the lightweight telescoping wands and the ease of switching attachments. This is a very cool design. The cord can be wrapped around the base really easy too. All I do is disconnect the hose, turn on the constellation and spin it like a top. The cord wraps around the base effortlessly. (I do hold the cord while I spin the machine to ensure it wraps up nicely. ) When it reaches the outlet, I turn it off and attach the outlet end to the cord via the clip designed as part of the plug. The tubes would get clogged up every once in a while, so I'd have to turn the vacuum upside down and unscrew everything. After I'd pull off all the plastic parts and pull the roller out, I'd stick a screwdriver up in there and unclog the arteries, so to speak. Then it would work fine again. Do that outside, because dirt and dust will get everywhere! ..oh, that happened about 10 times through its life span. ...That was fun..! (yeah right)

The hose worked good, and it' got all the attachments connected to the vacuum too, which is very nice. But, whenever you'd take it off, dirt and dust would fall out all over the place.. But hey, you have a vacuum right in front of you, right?! Oh, and the cord is looooong too. ..That's pretty cool.

About a year later, something weird started happening. Whenever I would lightly bump into a wall or furniture, the rollers would shut off! I'd have to fiddle with the switch on the handle to turn them back on. Then I'd hit something again, and they'd shut off! Fiddle with the switch, then shut off. Fiddle, off. fiddle, off. etc, etc... Arrg!!

The handle has a switch from off, to floor, to carpet modes. ..Convenient huh. Well, the mechanism wasn't registering that the switch was fully engaged in carpet mode, so It kept flipping back to floor mode when it hit something. So it would shut the rollers off, and slow the motor down to a lower speed. I was losing my mind!!!

It was so annoying, but if you jam it good enough, it might stay a while!! As long as the bags not over full, it will pick up. Otherwise, it would let you know by leaving trails of dirt and hair. Understandable. Change the bag as needed and it will continue to abide.

Now, for the good stuff. The switch on the handle got so messed up from me jamming it all the time! It started 'swimming' around inside the plastic. This unkind robot didn't even care if it hit anything anymore. It would just switch to floor mode automatically!! When I'd pull this beast backwards, the rollers would shut off! Then, push it forward, and they'd turn on... huh?back and forth, on and off!! EVERYTIME!! Arrg... Again!!! This unfriendly monster drove me so crazy!! It came to a point where i just couldn't take it anymore!! I don't know, is 3 years a good life span for a vacuum.?
...It's in my backyard right now in a thousand pieces. ...Boy, do I feel better!

I give this 2 stars. Only because it lasted me 3 years. Way too much fight to get something done! But, when it did work, It worked Well. Maybe I just got a lemon...
Anyways, I DO NOT recommend this product, but if you do get one, have your doctor check for high blood pressure.. Trust me.

The best cleaning solution I have found so far is using Folex. You can buy it by the gallon at Lowe's. 2 cups of Folex per tank is doing a nice job.

I think any woman or man who self cleans their carpets deserves brownie points from their spouse/partner for their efforts. Kudos to us for the cost avoidance savings we are making avoiding professional services! ...

... I have purchased 4 upright vacuum cleaners in the last 10 years. 3 were bagless. They have mostly ranged from $200-$350.00. 2 were Kenmores, One a Dirt Devil and one a cordless Westinghouse. None of them have done a sufficent job in my home due to my Shiba Inu which sheds periodically. Considering I have spent more on other vacuums and didn't receive any satisfaction, I decided to buy this one at its now reduced price, mainly because most of the reviews(pro and amateur)never actually mentioned a lack of cleaning power as a con. They were generally more superficial conveniences cons like how the cord wraps or the weight.

Furthermore, I would never pay $600 for a vacuum. I paid $169. With all of the negative reviews out there it was a gamble. I will admit that after using this vac once my wife was amazed at how clean I had gotten the floors, Usually after using my other vacs the brush is tangled with dog hair, primarily pushing a growing mound of hairball across the carpet, but never cleaning it. Not the Z.
I was assuming also that this thing would operate like a tank since everyone complained of its heft, I guess these reviewers were 120 lbs or so because I didn't see any more reason to complain about the weight than if you had a Kirby. That's what I used as a kid. Maybe in this day of 9 pound Orecks its a big difference but never was it cumbersome.

Seriously, if your concern is actually cleaning, this vac is excellent.l If you paid $600 and expected more, really, what were you expecting? Its a domestic work appliance. Auto cord rewinds don't impress me, I want a clean carpet. This is the first vac that I have bought that has actually done what was promised and if it clogs, which is common in all vacs, it provides an access point to clear the clog. The dirt cup is pretty small so you will have to empty it more often than others.

All in all though a nice gamble paid off for me. I'm really wondering what some of the other reviewers were expecting. ...

I was reasonably happy with it until the motor burned out last week - just 4 months past the warranty date. I have a two-bedroom apartment; this Hoover received very moderate use. Of course I checked for problems with the roller, belts, and visible clogs. The dirt cup had been recently emptied. The next step would have been to take it to a dealer for repair.

I'm finished with Hoovers. I now have a Bissell Momentum Bagless (Model 82G7-1) that I quite like, so far. It is much lighter weight than the Hoover, and easier to maneuver. One of the features I liked about the Hoover was the powered hand tool attachment. The Bissell has the same type of attachment (TurboBrush). Suction through both the base the attachment hose is very good - better than the Hoover. The dirt cup is separate from the filter (unlike the Hoover) and easier to remove and empty. On the down side, the Bissell's dirt cup is smaller and has to be emptied frequently. I paid [...] for the Hoover (Costco, with coupon). I paid [...] for the Bissell (Kohl's, on sale with coupon).

It REALLY pulls out the dirt. But make no mistake: this is no "miracle worker". If your carpets are soiled with pet stains, you will want to pre-treat stain areas by spraying (and thereafter scrubbng with a scrub sponge) the stained areas with the cleaning solution prior to using the unit. Also, after 3 or 4 months, most pet stains will reappear. This is not a negative reflection on the Hoover cleaner, but more a reflection on the realities (and limitations) of carpets, carpet cleaners, and pet stains. I am not aware of any other carpet cleaner (commercial or non-commercial) that can do any better than this unit, and believe me, I have looked. Further, the performance of the unit will depend on your willingness to clean out pet fur and/or other debris from the filters. As said, it is not a miracle cleaner - you have to give it some help by cleaning out the filters so that it can perform at its best. To my knowledge, there is no "miracle carpet cleaner" that ovbiates the need to peform essential basic maintenance on the unit.

This product also wins accolades for not leaking cleaning solution from the primary tank or the recovery tank. It's a very "tight unit", liquid-wise.

If you want clean carpets, and don't want to drop $1000 or more on a true "commercial" cleaner, this is the way to go. ...

... I purchased 3 of these vacuums in 2008, two for our house and one for a gift. The reason I purchase 2 for us is because these vacuums are very heavy and hard to get up and down stairs, so at $48.00 each, we bought one for each floor. All three have had problems within a dozen uses or less. As someone else wrote, the "self cleaning filter" is garbage and actually plugs up the vacuum because it doesn't clean itself. When I tried to clean it myself I ended up being covered from head to toe in dust... so much for the purpose of the filter.

I also bought the 2 year replacement plan and it too is a joke. When I called the warranty company, the poor guy tried really hard to help me for over 30 minutes but according to his company they do not cover remanufactured vacuums purchased through Amazon.com. They are still "researching" what they can do if anything. It's funny because Amazon.com has a purchase option where you buy the vacuum together with the warranty.

Anyway, I would highly, highly recommend that you do not waste your time and money on this vacuum. ...

... I owned the same Hoover vacuum for more than 20 years when I decided to retire it and purchase another Hoover . What a mistake!!! This vacuum has to be the worst piece of garbage I've ever owned. After just a month of use the problems began. I only have 3 rooms to vacuum. I vacuum them once a week. This thing has excellent/outstanding suction. It's automatic rotating brushes and power drive just can't perform well enough to handle the suction. So, this thing grabs the carpet and the brushes stop spinning and it starts squealing and smelling of burnt rubber, while you try to yank it loose. We have 90 ounce carpet in 2 rooms and 50 ounce in the other. It does the same grabbing, squealing and smelling to both carpets. It doesn't do any good to raise or lower the carpet height adjustment to alleviate the problem. The brushes are supposed to spin along with the suction, but just lift up on the handle 1" and they stop spinning and nothing gets picked up. I put up with the poor performance, the squealing, the smelly burnt rubber and the frustration for 6 months. Finally, I called the nearest Hoover repair and they said it was the power drive. So, I took it in and waited 3 months for it to be repaired. Now, it's almost a year and the warranty is just about up and I finally get it back. It worked fairly well for that last month of the warranty. And, you guessed it, it's back to the same burning rubber, squealing and the brushes doing nothing. I'm really glad I kept my 20+ year old Hoover because this garbage heap is heavy, noisy, smelly and a REAL pain in the back! I could get the carpets cleaner with a $20 Hokie! ...

We purchased this over a year ago on sale fortunately. While it worked well for awhile it is now a useless lump of plastic and metal. On the back is an access panel which lets you rescue things that have been sucked up inadvertently, great idea you would think. However I have had to use this twice in the past year and now after the second time it wont suck. That is because the self tapping screws supplied have stripped the plastic and that panel will no longer stay tight, so the vacuum just sucks from around those edges. We did not have any problem with the belt snapping though.

It is a shame because it has some good features, which worked well on both hard floors and carpet.

Buy a bag of extra belts, when they are "glazed", the machine is hard to move. Put a new one in every year, even if it works ok.
Go out on eBay and buy a case of bags, because they do not hold much.
Buy extra rocker switches for the power on/off because they do not last long. Very easy to replace - no soldering or wire nuts required. Remove 6 screws for access.

The unit is light & easy to operate otherwise. Nice that you do not get dust in your face when operating :-)

The dirt cup, it could hardly be called a canister, is messy with a open hole on the bottom! that leaves a nice lil dirt path from the vacuum to the garbage can you go to empty it in. Presumably so you can find your back to the vacuum cleaner. So I guess it more like a feature huh.

This is a great lightweight "electric broom" for small clean-ups on hard floors.
We have 2 dogs and keeping up with the hair is a constant effort.
This brushvac handles this clean-up and the normal day to day dirt/debris that's tracked in very well. You just have to empty the "trash" cup frequently.
We use it everyday and so far it has performed very well.

Very good design, great suction, self propelled, does an excellent job on carpeting. I would gladly pay more for the same vacuum made of more durable materials. It is, of course, made in China of flimsy plastic. Having tried several other vacuums over the last two years, the 4870 is a terrific improvement. Nothing else lasted even a year and nothing else cleaned so well. This is so easy to use and does such a good job that I vacuum every day. Pet hair, dust, ashes, etc all cleaned up in short order. Just pull it out, whiz it around and everything looks great. 30 ft cord is very helpful.

For those who complain about carrying the vacuum up and down stairs, I recommend getting a second one for upstairs. It will double the life of both and give you twice as long for easy cleaning without back problems. Also, the pedal that releases the vacuum into working position pushes toward the left, not back to front as most vacuums. The vacuum bag has to be inserted exactly right or the bag compartment will fill with dirt and the tubes will plug up. (Yes I did this on the first day). Moving from carpeting to bare floors means a full stop to readjust things, but most of my cleaning is carpet or Oriental rugs.

But for heavy duty vacuuming of carpeting, this vacuum is the best.

This vacuum is the reason I am currently browsing Amazon in search of a great cordless vacuum!

I owned this for about a year when I started noticing that shortly after I turned it on, the power would gradually decrease until it was barely operating. The culprit was a dying battery.

I was informed, however, by my friendly vacuum dealer that the replacement battery for this vacuum costs nearly as much as the entire vacuum. So...my vacuum ended up in the recycling bin.

Besides the short battery life I experienced, I found this vacuum to have an especially irritating design: it has vents on the side of the motor box that blow air out. If you are trying to pick up pet hair from the floor, this can create a real challenge, if not an impossible task. I would have to sneak up on the hair most times to try to avoid the air flow blowing it away.

after reading many reviews from many different sources we decided to purchase this vacuum. we ended up getting it from costco as it was quite a bit cheaper than on amazon at the time. i have to say that we've been thrilled with this vacuum so far. it does a wonderful job on our carpet leaving no trace of dog hair behind. the dirt sensor is a fun addition although i'm not completely sure what it's thinking sometimes. the self-propel feature is great and works effortlessly with normal vauuming gestures gliding the vacuum along the floor with ease.

we were looking at some dyson vacuums as well but after going to the store and test driving both models the dyson vacuums, although great to look at, seemed heavy and awkward to use most of the time. the hoovers seemed to have a good vacuum feel to them.

the set of attachments is also nice and are very easy to use.

I used this product for the first time. I cleaned three floor rugs today with this product. Two of the rugs had no pet smell lingering, but the last rug, which was the most smelly, still had a strong pet smell after cleaning it. I will probably have to re-do this last rug because of the high use it receives and since the dogs tend to like to sit on it. The deoderant in the formula needs to be stronger since pet smells are so strong. Also the formula could use more brighteners in it since I don't see much of a difference after cleaning the rugs.

Hoover U5268-970 TurboPower EmPower Upright Vacuum with Powered Hand Tool

NOTHING in this world is PERFECT, and that includes this vacuum cleaner. In a perfect world, nothing would ever get dirty and need to be cleaned. In a next-to-perfect world, I would be able to afford a good cleaning service and never have to vacuum again!

That said, this is, without a doubt, the BEST vacuum cleaner I've ever used. I've use a LOT of vacuum cleaners in my lifetime -- I started vacuuming my mother's floors when I was 5, and I'm now 56. I've used Kirbys (you know the ones: Buy a vacuum cleaner, or buy a car), I've used the much-touted (by the advertisers) and ridiculously expensive Oreck, I've tried the sadly disappointing Robotic Vacuum cleaner.... I can't begin to remember all the names of all the vacuum cleaners I've used, there are just too many, and I've used every type there is, too: canisters, uprights, bagged, bagless, etc.

Simply put, NONE of the other vacuum cleaners I've tried, came close to doing as thorough a cleaning job as this inexpensive Hoover Empower does. It finds dirt you didn't know was there! Also, it seems to almost propel itself across the floor somehow, even though it isn't advertised as self-propelled. That really helps me a lot, because I have an extremely bad back and neck (degenerative disk disease, spondelosis, bone spurs all up and down my spine, numerous herniated disks, and a big painful bony overgrowth in my neck), so I can't handle the strain of pushing most vacuum cleaners. (This is why I've tried so many, including the useless Robotic, and the almost-useless light-weight Oreck... I was trying to save my severely painful back and neck.)

This Hoover Empower vacuum cleaner is light enough that it doesn't kill me to move it from room to room, but sturdy and well-built enough that I don't expect it to fall apart any time soon. I also love the fact that you don't have to constantly be buying replacement bags and filters! My husband is confined to a wheelchair much of the time, and with my painful back, I'm not up to going out shopping for vacuum cleaner supplies very often -- and a vacuum cleaner with a full bag and filthy filter is useless.

The only problem with this vacuum cleaner that I have found, is that it really is a very dirty job to empty it. (It also isn't real easy to empty, IF you don't know what you're doing. PLEASE don't be dumb like we were -- read the instructions on how to empty it! We thought we were too smart to have to read the instructions before emptying, and as a result, we almost broke it, the first time we tried to empty it. So please, read how to do it, first.... it really isn't hard to do, IF you know exactly what you're doing,and are aware of how it must line up on both sides with the groove thing, before you try to push it back in after emptying, or else it will get STUCK FAST halfway in, and that's how we almost broke it, trying to get it UN-stuck! I say "we," because both my husband and I did this, independently of each other, before we read the instructions and compared notes on what to do, and more importantly, what NOT to do, when emptying!)

Now that we know HOW to empty the Hoover Empower properly, that part really is easy, but it is STILL VERY MESSY. I only do it outside in the back yard, with a big trash bag for catching all the dust and filth, and then I still have to brush myself off real good, before going back inside the house.

Despite that one drawback, I still much prefer a bagless, over any bag model. The Hoover Empower definitely cleans our house much more thoroughly than a cleaner with a bag can ever do, and, as I said, we don't often get to the store to buy more bags, and when your vacuum's bag is too full to use, it's useless. (I hate to admit it, but we are also on a super-tight budget now that my husband is on disability, and there have been too many times in the past when we couldn't vacuum and sorely needed to, but we just didn't have the money to buy even a cheap set of bags.)

BOTTOM LINE: No vacuum cleaner is perfect, but this one is the closest to perfect of any of the numerous brands I've tried over the past 50+ years. Overall, it's a lot easier to use than any other cleaner I've had, and, best of all, it gets my floors -- both the hard floors and the carpets -- noticeably cleaner than they've ever been before.

True Value took two weeks late and never sent the item I really needed, the whole reason for the order in the first place. Never was told why it wasn't sent, it was simply removed from the purchase order. After calling True Value support number they said they have never carried the item and it was an Amazon problem and that Amazon should have sent an email letting me know that. I argued that Amazon would never know they didn't send the item. The phone call confirmed that they didn't send the part and never would but never really resolved anything.

Unfortunately, I have 5 cats that throw up quite a bit. Sometimes I feel like I'm awash in it. Yuck. Anyway, I have a Hoover steam carpet cleaner that I use. I just let this pre-treater soak in for a few minutes and then use the steam cleaner - and the stain is gone.

Can't ask for anything better.
