I bought this machine a couple years ago to replace an Electrolux canister that worked but was quite old. I wanted an upright vac for ease of use on carpets, as well as something that would take up less storage space in my small house. I was disappointed from the very beginning, for several reasons:
1. This machine has mediocre suction - even when the bag is empty it doesn't come close to what I expected.
2. The attachments do not fit snugly, so I have to hold the extensions onto the hose as I am using them otherwise they don't stay in place. They are prone to come apart at any joint, so using 2 extensions and an attachment for hard floors is ridiculously impossible. It keeps coming apart.
3. The extensions - both of them - cracked within a couple months of purchase. Very poor quality.
4. The hand tool for carpeted stairs has a beater bar powered only by suction, so as the bag gets full the suction diminishes and the bar rotates slower and slower.
5. The machine is VERY loud and VERY heavy. I find it unmanageable on stairs, and need my husband to carry it up and down the stairs for me.
6. The operation of the self-propelled feature is very jerky.
7. When using the attachments, the hose is not long and the vacuum tends to tip over unless I either hold it with one hand while vacuuming with the other (and please refer back to point #2 - this becomes incredibly challenging) or turn the vacuum so it is being pulled forward, with the hose wrapped over the top, which results in less available hose length.
This is the first and last Hoover upright I will ever own.
